Kim MollisonChildren’s Continence Project Nurse, NHS Tayside

Whilst working for NHS Tayside, Kim worked in the role of a Project Nurse for 23 months to develop and manage an integrated children’s continence service. This post was supported by the charity Kidney Kids Scotland whilst fully supported by NHS Tayside Paediatric management team.

Developing the service has provided clear clinical leadership and supervision, care and treatment pathways, clear referral pathways and guidance for all professionals caring for children with bladder and bowel dysfunction, as well as an education and training component to the role.

An important part of this post was to share the local successes and challenges with other NHS Boards in Scotland who have desires to improve local services, this was formulated by delivering a conference this year.

Kim has been very fortunate in her working life where her career has included lots of variety and experiences which have made her the practitioner she is today. Kim specialised in children’s oncology, high dependency care and also in acute assessment area in the children’s unit in Tayside where she practiced as a Nurse Practitioner.

Kim also worked as the Senior Charge Nurse for many years and then left this role to do the Health Visitor training a number of years ago. Kim’s most recent post was developing the day case treatment and investigation unit in Tayside and this is where she enhanced her continence skills and realised there was a lack of care provision locally so was keen to become involved in this initiative.
