Advanced Healthy Bladders & Bowels
This course will use a series of Case Studies to investigate how children's bladder and bowel problems may present and how this information can lead to diagnosis. With an emphasis on group participation, the session will encourage contributions from all delegates, learning from each other’s experiences to plan management for the child. A working microphone on your device is vital for this session so we can invite you to verbally participate.

Please note that you must have previously completed ERIC's Healthy Bladders & Bowels full course to attend this training.

Brenda Cheer
Paediatric Specialist Continence Nurse & ERIC Nurse
Brenda started her nursing career in London in 1983. After her general training Brenda specialised in children’s nursing, and over the years has worked with adults and children, in London and Cardiff in both hospital and community settings. Since 2002 she has focussed on paediatric continence, working as Paediatric Specialist Continence Nurse at the University Hospital of Wales until summer 2018.
Brenda currently works two days a week as ERIC Nurse, the first person to take on this role, originally funded by the Department of Health. She works a further day a week as Paediatric Continence Nurse for Shine: Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus Information, Networking and Equality.
The ERIC Nurse post was created to seek ways to improve early intervention into childhood continence problems. Brenda strives to increase awareness of children’s bladder and bowel health, by designing easy-to-understand information for parents and providing training for health care professionals and early year’s workers. She has produced a generic Children's Continence Pathway, which ERIC is promoting as a model of best practice. The ERIC Nurse project won a prestigious Nursing Times Award in 2016, and has stimulated articles in the nursing press. Brenda has re-written many of the ERIC leaflets, and is enjoying working at the heart of the charity she supports.
When she is not busy with her regular jobs, Brenda is much in demand as a freelance trainer and speaker. In her rare moments of spare time she enjoys the company of her three children and her husband John, a musician and music therapist.
Objectives
- To deepen understanding of promotion of healthy bladders and bowels in children
- To increase knowledge of up-to-date facts on childhood bowel and bladder problems
- To be clear about the importance of assessment and what tools are available
- To improve knowledge of the treatments available and when to use them
- To provide an understanding of the relevant NICE guidance
- To increase confidence in managing these conditions in the community
- To establish areas where further learning and/or experience is needed
- To increase awareness of ERIC resources and when to use them

This course will be delivered via Zoom webinar.
If you are not available to watch this session live, there will be access to the recording for 1 month but you will still need to register.
We would recommend that attendees access this training from home using a personal device if at all possible. If you are intending to use an NHS computer, please check that there are no firewalls in place that will prevent you from joining a Zoom webinar.

Cancellation policy
If written notification is received 30 days before the course, we will issue a refund. We regret that no refunds can be made on bookings cancelled less than 30 days before the course. A colleague may attend in your place rather than forfeit the full course fee.
ERIC reserves the right to cancel the course. In the unlikely event of cancellation by ERIC, course fees paid will be refunded in full
