For detailed course programmes please view our prospectus.
1. Healthy Bladders & Bowels
Delivered over two half-day sessions, this course explores the anatomy and physiology of the gastroenterological and urological systems and practical ways to promote healthy bladders and bowels for children across the age range. Ideal for those new to the specialty or seeking a full update, the training covers constipation, daytime wetting, and everyday continence support, with a thorough look at ERIC resources and how to apply them to your practice.
“The delivery of the training was really good. Presenters were really engaging and knowledgeable and were able to make the training interactive
and gave practical and useful information for us to take into practice. Following the training I will feel more confident to explore bowel issues
with children and families and I now have a clearer understanding of the topic.” -Nicole Walker, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse
2. Complex Bladders & Bowels
This course includes an introduction to Clean Intermittent Catheterisation and management of indwelling catheters. It also looks at Mitrofanoff care and bowel washouts via ACE and rectally. It is an interactive training day illustrated by case studies with a chance to view a range of equipment available.
This has given me valuable learning for helping with enuresis and encopresis clinics. (Suzanne McDonald, Paediatric Staff Nurse)
This course is delivered over two half days. Please note that you must have completed an ERIC Healthy Bladders & Bowels course within the last year before booking on to this training course.
3. Toilet Training including Children with Additional Needs
Please note that you must have completed an ERIC Healthy Bladders & Bowels course within the last two years before booking on to this training session.
This half-day course equips professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to support successful potty training, as well as toilet training children with additional needs. It covers the normal development of bladder and bowel control, identifies common obstacles, and introduces tailored approaches to supporting children, including children with additional needs. Attendees will be given guidance on care pathways, individualised programmes, and how to effectively use ERIC resources to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.
“The training has given me more confidence in terms of how to support those children with additional needs to reach their toileting potential in the most appropriate way for them” -Children’s Continence Nurse, Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust
“Very informative, professional as well as personal and inclusive. The use of interactive whiteboard was very clear and easy to follow. I wish ERIC can deliver training to the whole world! Especially in schools to highlight the importance of toilet training and promoting healthy bladders and bowels.” -Anisha Kahn, Occupational Therapist Assistant
4. Nocturnal Enuresis
Please note that you must have completed an ERIC Healthy Bladders & Bowels course within the last two years before booking on to this training session.
This half-day course provides a focused overview of night time wetting. Making use of ERIC’s resources, it explores how to recognise what causes ongoing nocturnal enuresis, how to understand the assessment process, and support children with treatments that are appropriate to the underlying causes of their wetting. Participants will also review relevant guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and consider how to apply best practice confidently with families.
“Excellent resource for Health Professionals. I run the Enuresis clinics in my county and I have learned a lot of valuable info today. The option to print resources from the ERIC website is very helpful to reinforce the advice and information given." - Edel Doyle, Continence Nurse Advisor
