Paediatric Continence Care Conference 2024

The ERIC Paediatric Continence Care Conference is designed for healthcare professionals to share the latest research and practical guidance, as well as updating their professional skills.

The event includes a broad programme of talks from some of the world’s leading practitioners and researchers, cutting-edge interactive workshops and practical demonstrations, and an opportunity to access the industry’s latest equipment and expertise in our exhibition.

Theme

This year’s theme is understanding the puzzle and solving it together, which reflects the complex challenges that continence professionals face. Throughout the day we’ll be looking at the latest research and techniques in the field to help decode the issues, as we work towards healthier bowels and bladders for all children and young people.

Who can attend?

The Conference is suitable for a wide range of healthcare professionals including specialist, urology, general, children’s and school nurses, allied healthcare professionals and those who work in residential and care homes.

How does it work?

The event will begin ay 9.30am with a full programme of headline talks throughout the morning. A light lunch is provided, with intervals to explore our exclusive exhibition, where delegates can access the industry’s latest equipment and expertise.

In the afternoon there will be two workshop sessions, with delegates able to choose from six possible workshops.

The day ends with poster presentations from ERIC’s CEO Juliette Rayner, and a closing address from our headline speaker.

Attending the Conference will contribute to CPD for healthcare professionals and an official certificate of attendance is provided.

11.45 - 12.10: Empowering young people to challenge policy and culture in schools, ERIC Young Champions

ERIC's Young Champions are a group of young people aged 12 – 19 from across the UK with lived experience of bowel and bladder conditions. They were recruited, trained and supported by Participation People, a team of youth engagement, participation and co-production experts working across the UK. During this session the Young Champions, supported by the ERIC team, will discuss the work they've been doing to highlight the issues faced by young people with bowel and bladder conditions at school.

Different modes of treatment, focusing on parasacral TENS

Interferential TES for constipation, how it works

Workshop 2: Let’s Go Potty: Online Learning for Early Years

Beth Osborne, Early Years Consultant and Jessica Baugh, Senior Public Health Specialist, Bristol City Council

We know that children are being toilet trained later and that the most recent survey from Kindred Squared has highlighted that 1 in 4 children are starting school not able to use the toilet independently. Bristol City Council wanted to reverse this trend and came to ERIC for advice.

This workshop discusses a pilot project between Bristol Early Years, Public Health and ERIC and its impact. The pilot includes the roll-out of a new online training resource for the early years sector across the City, plus along the way as we’ve engaged widely, we’ve developed a range of supporting initiatives that join up with other services to promote good bladder & bowel health from birth.

Workshop 3: Current Best Practice in Nocturnal Enuresis Management (sponsored by Alturix)

Chaired by Brenda Cheer, Paediatric Specialist Continence Nurse & ERIC Nurse

This workshop will include a brief presentation by Brenda followed by a panel discussion on:

Sharing of best practice in Paediatric Bladder and Bowel service design
How to enhance patient experience and outcomes
Empowering patients through joint decision making.
Improving concordance and adherence to medication

It will finish with a short Q&A with the panel

Workshop 4: Treating Constipation, including the Importance of Toileting Routines

Sarah Timms, Head of Family Services & Support and Hollie Baxter, Family Support & Helpline Advisor, ERIC

Once constipation has been diagnosed and laxatives prescribed, how can we use macrogol laxatives effectively for disimpaction and maintenance dose? We will explore the importance of toileting routines and how they can help with constipation and stool withholding.

Workshop 5: Making Pee and Poo Cool in School!!

Nia Krijnen, Specialist Continence Nurse and Alaw Parry, School Nurse Continence at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

Interactive session on how to deliver a fun, informative teaching session for 9-11 year olds in school. What to provide as visual aids, costumes and the secret to getting on the right side of the Head Teacher!!!

Workshop 6: The updated children’s continence commissioning guide: supporting service development

Davina Richardson, Specialist Children's Nurse, Bladder & Bowel UK & Co-chair of Paediatric Continence Forum

Children’s bladder and bowel health remains a Cinderella service. This interactive workshop will look at how use of the newly updated CCCG can support service development and provide evidence for improved resourcing, in a way that meets current NHS agendas.

Notice of cancellation must be made in writing. Cancellations received by 31st August 2024 will receive a 75% refund. Unfortunately, no refunds can be made after this date and if payment has not been received delegates will still be liable for payment of the full fee. Substitute delegates will be welcome up to 2 weeks prior to the event but we must be notified of this in writing.
